Respect to all the strong Jamaican women vendors out there! I want to take a moment to appreciate and honour the hardworking women who make a living by selling their goods on the streets and markets of Jamaica. My grandmother used to sell at the Brownstown market, and her hustle and dedication have always inspired me. That's why I'm hosting the Quasheba exhibition to showcase the history, culture, and resilience of Jamaican women vendors.
As a photographer, I had the privilege of capturing these women in their element, working hard, and never giving up. It was amazing to see how they carry themselves with grace and strength, even when facing tough times. I wanted to capture their stories, experiences, and triumphs so that people can see how vital they are to the Jamaican economy and culture.
The Quasheba exhibition will be a celebration of these remarkable women. We'll be showcasing their stories and experiences through photography, storytelling, and interactive exhibits. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Jamaica and gain a deeper understanding of the social and economic issues that impact the lives of women vendors.
I'm also excited to offer a full sensory experience of Jamaica through music, food, and cultural activities. We'll have Jamaican music, food, and cultural activities, providing visitors with an immersive and engaging experience that captures the spirit and culture of Jamaica.
I'm doing this exhibition not just to celebrate the women vendors of Jamaica, but also to honour my grandmother and all the women who have paved the way for future generations. They inspire me to never give up, to work hard, and to always believe in myself.
So come out and join me on April 19, 2023, for the opening of the Quasheba exhibition. The opening ceremony starts at 4:00 p.m., but the viewing starts at 11:00 a.m. The exhibition is free, and drinks and refreshments will be available for sale. It's going to be an incredible celebration of the art of empowering, embracing, and encapsulating the strength and resilience of Jamaican women vendors. See you there!
