School Days: Memories of the Rain

I love taking photos, and there's something about capturing moments in time that feels magical to me. So when I saw it raining in the afternoon, I knew I had to get my camera and start shooting. I went up to my balcony and looked out onto the street below. That's when I saw the schoolchildren coming out of school with their umbrellas, trying to stay dry. Some of them had friends to share the umbrella with, but most of them had to keep their distance because of the pandemic.

As I was taking these photos, I realized that they were more than just pictures of kids in the rain. They were symbols of resilience, of hope, and of the human spirit. Despite the rain and the pandemic, these children were still going to school, still learning, and still growing. And that, to me, was incredibly powerful.

I called this album "School Days Memories of the Rain," and I chose to shoot it in black and white. There's something timeless and classic about black and white photography, and it felt like the perfect way to capture these moments. The lack of colour also made the images feel more introspective and contemplative, which was exactly what I wanted to convey.

But black and white also had another meaning for me. It represented the pandemic, the way that everything felt muted and uncertain during that time. And yet, even in the midst of that uncertainty, these children were still out there, still living their lives, still making memories.

Looking back on these photos now, I see them as a reminder of what we're capable of as humans. We can weather any storm, overcome any obstacle, and find joy even in the midst of darkness. And I'm grateful to have been able to capture that in these images.
